Freiburg team welcomed to Grimsby!

Following successful auditions back in November 2021, the selected dancers welcomed the dance team from Freiburg to Grimsby in March 2022. Together, they created a bespoke physical theatre piece with expert leadership from the creative team at Pan Optikum.

The young dancers worked extremely hard over an intense 10-day rehearsal period. They created a beautiful and moving piece around the topic of Dilemma, drawing inspiration from their own experiences and the current situation in Ukraine.

Rehearsals took place in the magnificent Grimsby Minster where the dancers learned new techniques and developed their creative range.

On Sunday 13 March, the team travelled over to the iconic Cleethorpes beach where they filmed some short choreographies which will be used in the ‘big production’ this summer.

Back in the Minster, on Friday 18 March, the premiere performance welcomed a special guestlist of attendees including the Mayor and other influential creatives from the local art sector. The performance was well-received and sparked conversations about future collaborations.

Saturday 19 March saw the second performance of the unique dance piece. Forming the finale show at the brand new Grimsby Creates Noise Festival, this was the public’s chance to see the new work. Again, the piece received positive feedback from audience members and thus concluded this phase of the project.

After a well-deserved evening of celebration, the dance teams parted ways and the Freiburg team travelled back to Germany on Sunday 20 March. The teams will meet again in Freiburg in July 2022 at rehearsals for the ‘big production’ ready for its European tour in 2023/24.
